kmovie: Rainbow Eyes

this movie: 2 words, awesome plot! unpredictable till the end. 9/10. I really love how the video editor portrays the flashback sequences. and the way the scenes are choreographed. i especially like one scene, the one in the office where the camera moves around the whole setting and shows how busy everyone is working. i believe the shot was taken like 2-3mins continuously without stopping. Great stuff! wonder how many NGs did they clock for that shot.

and this Lee Soo-kyeong, nvr seen her before. She chio man. Nuff said. Time to find out more about her.

FYP: multi-touch curtain *beta*

have been a little enthusiastic lately about my fyp or should i say multi-touch technology. Turns out that i'm doing a similar kinda multi-touch system but the surface i'm using is a deformable one rather than a solid one. the video shows the rough idea of how the thing is interacting with the user. the project as my prof said is a form of electronic art, no specific application will be done, more importantly is the HCI and computer vision studies of the system.

as you can see, the system now only recognizes palm(or similar size) touches and the problem now i'm solving is to harness finger touches. another problem is that this curtain is supposed to be placed at a doorway where the user can actually enter through the curtain. seriously dunno have time to do dat siah.... interim report in august... diez...

well if you wondering how it works, here's a picture of what is behind this curtain. 4 infrared illuminators, 1 infrared modified webcam(XBOX 360 live webcam) and the projector(EPSON). And the curtain is a shower curtain from IKEA.

So for all those who wants to know what i'm doing for my fyp now knows cos when i explain what i'm doing, everyone gives me the "HUH? simi lai eh?" look.

o.. forgot to credit the music... its グッド・フェローズ from Last Friends OST. Hope they dun sue me!

cheers!

mod your Canon camera!

if you are using a canon camera, chances are you can mod it to a super camera! check this site out: chdk. basically its a firmware you can load from your SD card and it doesn't overwrites your original canon firmware at all. You can even enable/disable the extra functionalities just by locking/unlocking your SD card(The special lock button on your SD card). As far as i've read thru the website, it doesn't void your Canon warranty at all, just remember to take out the SD card or delete the CHDK file when you sent it for repair.

So what exactly does the mod do? well, check out the things CHDK can do on your camera by clicking on the links on the "Sample picture" column on the right of the page. While you are at it, you can check whether ur Canon camera is supported on the same column. The one feature i was disappointed my S5 IS doesn't has was the ability to save RAW images and now that CHDK made my dream come thru without me buying the expensive SLRs. Awesome!

i'm not a Canon fanboy really but i've been using Canon digital cameras and they've been great. And now that there is actually mods for Canon cameras, it is no reason why you should not get a Canon for your next digicam purchase. These mods give you the ability to make your point-and-shoot camera to a top-class camera with features that only high-end models have without paying a bomb.

Hurray to Canon users!

Router Hack

If you are using Linksys WRT54G like me, there has been firmwares around the net that modifies the original firmware. Firmwares are like drivers which enables you to apply settings onto your hardwares. And there have been those "zhai" users who actually came out with modification firmwares which enables your hardware to perform which it actually meant to perform or better performance than what the default settings the manufacturers has given you.

This particular router, Linksys WRT54G, which runs on linux os allows users to enable settings that are not shown in the default Linksys settings. I've been flashing a number of firmwares already and the latest one i'm using is from Tomato. You can type "tomato firmware" in google for more info. But if you want to just flash it i recommend this link. The author of the link is from hardwarezone and he takes the original tomato firmware and further speed mod it. So far i've been using it and it has been very stable.

So why fix when it aint broke u ask. Well, these firmwares enhances your internet surfing and bittorrent downloading which makes me a happier PC user. Remember to apply the tcpip patch as well for winXP users(Link here), if you are using vista, you would need to search around the net for them.

kmovie: I like it hot

its been quite a while since i last watch a kmovie. this movie talks about 3 gals, their relationships(be it with man and themselves) they encounter at their different age group. i believe there is one hk movie similar to this kinda plot? well, i find this movie not bad, in terms of storyline there isn't much but i always felt that the way kmovies are portrayed are very realistic, the use of handheld cam in certain scenes shows the 'realism'. There are some scenes that are quite symbolic as well, watch it and probably we can have a discussion on our findings.

actually, i like to listen to how people interprets a movie, and it is really interesting to discover things that you might not think of that is realised by another person. i think i got influence by the course i took in my year 2 elective called Understanding Chinese Cinema. i tend to see movies in a different light now, appreciating more artistic films i supposed, becos they tend to give the audience a more sense of self-interpretation and exploration. somehow like invoking your creative juices, which i like. how lame or how serious the movie is portrayed is up to you.
